beautificationThe City of Kenai Parks & Recreation Department, Beautification Division maintains flowers, shrubs, and trees in 23 different locations throughout the City, including street rights-of-way, parks, and facilities.  Maintenance included planting, watering, pruning, and weeding.  We have over 100 flower beds, hanging baskets, boxes, and barrels combined, as well as fourteen shrub beds.  Since 2007, the Beautification Division has planted over 70 ornamental trees in a wide variety of species.

If you love the outdoors and are looking for a volunteer opportunity, help us beautify our community by planting and maintaining a public flower garden!  Most of the gardens are already planned and flowers are purchased ahead of time.  Planting is accomplished during our annual volunteer planting day, the first weekend in June.  To get started, please call our office at 283-8261.

Community Gardens

The Kenai Community Gardens are a perfect place for citizens to recreate, socialize, connect with the enviroment and learn about agriculture.  You can reserve a 15' x 20' plot and/or a 4' x 10' raised bed.  All plots are $20 each plus tax.  We will till all plots and assign them on a first come first served basis, although returning gardeners are given first choice.  The Parks Department provides a water source, maintains the surrounding turf areas, maintains the restroom, provides a garden shed for shared use, and has a designated compost area as well.  Feel free to bring your little ones who can work alongside you in the Children's Garden Area!  For more information, please see our guidelines and agreement, or call our office at 283-8261.

Wildflower Garden

The City of Kenai's Wildflower Garden is a beautiful open space, blooming with fifteen different species of flowers.  There is a winding trail with benches for resting, a gazebo, and informational signage for viewing.  This is a great place for photoshoots, a nice walk, or fieldtrip location to learn about each of the individual flower species.
