Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)

The Kenai Police Department facilitates the D.A.R.E. Program in conjunction with the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District at Mountain View Elementary School and the Kenai Middle School.

D.A.R.E. is making a difference in the lives of young people around the country and around the world. In fact, the success of the D.A.R.E. Program has been proven and documented in numerous research studies. (http://www.dare-america.com/index2.htm)

The ten-week core program is taught to the 5th grade class at Mt. View Elementary once a week by a uniformed officer in conjunction with the classroom teacher and in accordance with the District's health curriculum. Emphasis is placed on the development of life skills and personal responsibility through lessons that highlight the development of character, sound decision making, appropriate and inappropriate risk taking, peer pressure, consequences, resistance techniques, and positive role models.

The department has one D.A.R.E officer teaching the core elementary program:

Officer Mitch Langseth

Additionally, Mitch Langseth teaches the ten-day follow-up program to Kenai Middle School 7th grade students.
